FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & location will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the taste profile of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans will keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various areas can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when buying coffee.
