FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and area will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & displays a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans will keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various regions can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee.
