FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country and area will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast process to develop different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
