FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country & region will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people prefer to have Arabica because it is less bitter and has a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant role in the taste profile of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roast process to make different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional aspects that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the various locations can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing beans.
