FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation and region will produce a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica because it is not as bitter & displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the taste profile of the coffee. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted beans typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
