FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation & location will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter and has a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the taste profile of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roast process to develop different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the different locations can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing beans.
