FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country & region will produce a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, commonly people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter & displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting process to develop different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee beans.
