FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country and location will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & displays a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roasting process to develop different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different locations can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
