FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and location will result in a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major role in the taste profile of the beans. Combining different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional factors that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the different locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee.
