FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country and area will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional conditions that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
