FAQs
Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica. Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and area will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.
Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.
The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & can have hints of cereal or nuts.
Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery overtones.
Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.
When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually grown at sea level & in hotter climates.
Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.
No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.
The roast proceedure also plays a significant part in the flavour profile of the beans. Mixing different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are controlled during the roasting.
Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee.
