FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation & area will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people would rather have Arabica because it is less bitter & exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Mixing different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
