FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation & area will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has greater bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a major part in the taste profile of the beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roast process to develop different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the various locations are be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is important to think about when purchasing beans.
