FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country and region will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater bean yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast process to develop different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee.
