FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country & location will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people prefer to consume Arabica as it is less bitter & shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater bean yield and is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roast process to make different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the various regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
