FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country & area will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & has a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Blending different types and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roast process to develop different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans will retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the beans from the various locations can often be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
