FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation and area will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people would rather drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has more bean yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying beans.
