FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country & region will produce a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roast process to make different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different regions can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee beans.
