FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation & location will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter & shows a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roasting process to develop different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional aspects that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee.
