FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation & region will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a significant part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the different locations can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
