FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country & region will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other factors that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying beans.
