FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country and area will produce a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people prefer to consume Arabica because it is not as bitter and displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee will keep more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing beans.
