FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation and location will make a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more bean yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the beans. Mixing different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other things that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
