FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each nation & location will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, usually people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & shows a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a major part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency between batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans usually keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee.
