FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation & location will result in a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional aspects that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when buying coffee beans.
