FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & area will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people prefer to have Arabica because it is not as bitter & has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant role in the flavour profile of the beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roast proceedure to make different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the different regions can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when buying coffee beans.
