FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and area will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica because it is less bitter and has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has more fruit yield & is more resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to make different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee.
