FAQs
Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica. Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country and area will result in a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.
Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.
The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.
Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery flavours.
Most people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.
When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level and in hotter climates.
Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is better resistant to pests.
No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.
The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are regulated during the process.
Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different locations can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
