FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & location will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter and displays a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also influences a significant role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different types & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast process to make different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee typcially keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing beans.
