FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & location will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, most people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter & has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency between batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee typcially keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the various areas can often be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when buying coffee beans.
