FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country and region will produce a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter and has a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roast process to develop different tastes in their beans and ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans typcially keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying beans.
