FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation and area will make a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change every aspect of the roasting process to make different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
