FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country and location will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit nicerbetter taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and has a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a major role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Combining different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roasting process to craft different tastes in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional conditions that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans usually keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various regions are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
