FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each country & area will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the various areas are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying beans.
