FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country and location will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change all aspects of the roast process to make different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional aspects that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast beans usually keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the various locations are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
