FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation and region will produce a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people would rather drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Blending different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various locations are be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when buying beans.
