FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many countries, each nation & location will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica because it is less bitter & exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is usually farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield and is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Blending different types & roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roast process to craft different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional things that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast beans typcially keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the various locations can often be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee.
