FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and region will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee beans typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different regions can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee.
