FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and region will produce a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to consume Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee. Combining different types & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional factors that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans will keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the various locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
