FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & region will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & may display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people would rather consume Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically farmed at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roast process to make different tastes in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee typcially retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different areas are be more distinct in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when buying coffee.
