FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and area will result in a different taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica because it is not as bitter and displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roast process to develop different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various locations are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
