FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and area will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to have Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is more resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans & maintain consistency between batches of beans. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the different regions are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee beans.
