FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation & area will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior taste & are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter and displays a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different areas are be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when buying beans.
