FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country & region will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display superior flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & has a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different varieties & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast process to craft different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee will retain more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the various areas can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing beans.
