FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & region will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & exhibits a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roast process to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other aspects that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee usually keep more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various locations are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when purchasing beans.
