FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and region will result in a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter and shows a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the beans. Combining different types & roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roast process to make different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee beans.
