FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & area will produce a different taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior flavour & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant part in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roast proceedure to make different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans will retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various regions can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing beans.
