FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & area will make a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to have Arabica as it is less bitter & shows a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has more bean yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans and ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the beans from the various areas can often be more distinct in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
