FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each country & region will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica plant which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, commonly people would rather drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Blending different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other factors that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually keep more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the different areas can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is important to think about when purchasing beans.
