FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation and region will result in a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can display a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica because it is less bitter & has a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to craft different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different locations are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee.
